  • The present perfect is used as a bridge between the past and the present. (relevance to the present)
  • It is formed with have/has + past participle of verb.
Affirmative > I/you/we/you/they have (‘ve) lost my key.
he/she/it has (‘s) lost
Negative > I/you/we/you/they have not (haven’t)
he/she/it has not (hasn’t)
Questions > Have I/you/we/you/they…?
Has he/she/it…?
Negative Questions > Haven’t I/you/we/you/they…?
Hasn’t he/she/it…?
Short answers > Yes, + subject pronoun + have/has.No, + subject pronoun + haven’t/hasn’t.

  2. He has cleaned my shoes.
  3. They have moved to a new apartment.
  4. She has made lunch for everyone.
  5. My car has broken down again.
  6. ‘Where’s your sister?’ ‘She‘s gone to bed.’
  7. I’m looking for my mother. Have you seen her?
  8. I haven’t been very well.
  9. He hasn’t bought the newspaper today.
  10. Has Peter arrived?
  11. Hasn’t he answered your email?
  12. Have you seen my mother? Yes, I have.
  13. Has Paul called you? No, he hasn’t.
  14. Where have you been?
  15. Have they invited you to their party? No, they haven’t.
  16. I haven’t finished my homework.
  17. It hasn’t been very hot today.
  18. Somebody has spilt water on the carpet.
  19. What have you done to your hair?
  20. Somebody has left the kitchen tap on. The sink is full of water.
