CAN’T MOVE ON | I am still friends with my ex and can’t get over her (esquecê-la, tirar da cabeça, superar) 15 years on (depois).

DEAR DEIDRE: THERE isn’t a day that goes by (passar) that I don’t think about my ex.

It’s been 15 years since we split up (separar) and I still haven’t found anyone else who comes close to her.

It’s ridiculous. We were together for ten years and I spend my whole time reminiscing (relembrar) about our time together.

We are still good friends. I hoped she would change her mind (mudar de ideia), but she has made it very clear that she isn’t interested in rekindling (reacender, reatar) our relationship.

I’m only 52 and want to enjoy the rest of my life with someone I care about (gostar, ter afeto).

How do I cut loose (desligar, desprender) from her and make the most of life (aproveitar ao máximo a vida)?

DEIDRE SAYS:

I am afraid you won’t meet anyone else while you are still in love with your ex.

Staying in such regular contact may well (pode muito bem) be giving you false hope and it would be best if you cut contact, or at least (pelo menos, no mínimo) spoke to her a lot less (bem menos).

It’s time to accept you have no future with your ex and move on (seguir em frente, tocar o barco).
