DEAR DEIDRE: THE men I meet only want me for one thing – money.

I am an attractive 50-year-old woman.

I’m independent and keep myself in good shape (forma).

I think I look good for my age but I haven’t been in a relationship for eight years.

I’ve been going to social events, joined dating sites, taken up (começar a fazer) running and joined a photography club.

My friends have introduced me to people but the men I meet have multiple partners.

I’m not going to share a man with other women.

My online profile describes me as an older professional woman – I am a solicitor (advogado/a) with my own practice (escritório) – so the men I meet think I am loaded (cheio da nota, com dinheiro) and are always asking me for money.

I have tried everything to find a genuine man.

I am running out of (estar sem, ficar sem) ideas.

It’s really getting me down (deprimir). I think I’ll be single for ever.

You’re doing all the right things and there’s nothing wrong with your profile – there are many people like you who just haven’t found that special person yet.

Take the pressure off (tirar) by looking for friendships, not partners.

New friends will ease (amenizar, aliviar) your loneliness and may lead (a) to a relationship.

Try volunteering (voluntariar-se) where you’re likely to meet good-hearted people – the givers not the takers (doador/tomador).
