FALLING FEAR | My anxiety is holding me back (impedir, atrapalhar) from my dream of skydiving (fazer paraquedismo).

DEAR DEIDRE: ALL my life I’ve dreamed of skydiving. There’s something about the risk that always intrigued (intrigar, fascinar) me.

So when a friend suggested we try it, for charity, it felt like a no-brainer (uma decisão fácil, moleza) . It is a once-in-a-lifetime (única) experience, after all (afinal, afinal de contas) .

But the reality of actually doing it has been overwhelming (assustador, sufocante) and now I’m regretting (arrepender-se, lamentar) saying yes.

I’m a woman of 34 and have always suffered with my nerves. Anxiety has held me back for as long as (desde que, até onde) I can remember.

I don’t know what got into me (deu em mim) when I agreed. I think I just wanted to finally take control.

But now the thought of (a ideia de) this is crippling (paralisar, prejudicar) me, and I don’t know why I wasn’t honest with myself at the start.

DEIDRE SAYS:

Don’t beat yourself up (martirizar-se, culpar-se). The fact you tried to push yourself (dar o máximo de si, esforçar-se) is a sign you are trying to overcome (superar, vencer) your fears. This is a really positive step.

To keep battling your anxiety, push yourself a little more in every scenario you struggle (ter dificuldade, lutar) with.

By taking more steps forward, no matter how little, you build your resilience.

My support pack Living With Anxiety explains where you can get more help.
