  • The present perfect continuous is used to express actions that started in the past. The activity is still happening or has just stopped.
  • It’s used to highlight the amount of time a prolonged action has been going on for. (an action repeated many times). We use expressions like all morning /all night / all week/ all day / all day long.
  • It is formed with have/has + been + verb in the –ing form.
Affirmative > I/you/we/you/they have (‘ve) been waiting
he/she/it has (‘s) been waiting
Negative > I/you/we/you/they have not (haven’t) been waiting
he/she/it has not (hasn’t) been waiting
Questions > Have I/you/we/you/they been waiting…?
Has he/she/it… been waiting?

  3. He‘s been watching TV since 2 o’clock.
  4. It‘s been raining all day.
