  • We use > am/is/are + doing/raining/eating/playing/running/writing etc.
  • The present continuous > something is happening now:
  1. It‘s raining.
  2. Ronald is working.
  3. Helen is in the kitchen. She is cooking.
  4. The boys are playing football.
  5. Shirley is not watching TV.
  6. My father is reading a newspaper.
  7. My mother is washing her hair.
  8. She isn’t eating, (or She’s not eating.)
  9. The bus is coming.
  10. They‘re having dinner.
  11. You‘re not listening to me. (or You aren’t listening.)
  12. The children are doing their homework.
  • Spelling:
come/write/dance/take/make/have
*but > be – being see – seeing		coming/writing/dancing/taking/making/having
lie/die/tielying/dying/tying
run/sit/swim/cut/begin > CVC = double the last consonant.

*but w, x and y, do not double.
snow/fix/ play/enjoy
snowing/fixing/playing/enjoying

*but syllable is not stressed.
open/happen/listen/visit/whisper/remember /rɪˈmem.bər/
opening/happening/visiting/whispering/remembering

*travel/counsel
travelling/counselling (British) traveling/counseling (Am)
running/sitting/swimming/cutting/beginning
  1. They are travelling around the country.
  2. Are you lying to me?
  3. It’s snowing again.
  4. The girls are tying their shoelaces.
  5. My father is fixing the car.
  6. Aren’t you listening to me?
  7. John is swimming in the lake.
  8. If you want to know what is happening in the world, you have to read the newspapers.
