WOEFUL (angustiado, lastimável) WRITER | I’m desperate to be a journalist but I’m convinced I don’t have what it takes (o que é necessário/preciso).

DEAR DEIDRE: I WANT so badly (tanto) to be a journalist, but I’m convinced I’ll never have what it takes.

I’m a 24-year-old man, and for as long as I can remember my passion has always been for writing.

It’s really the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do. Yet no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to find any work.

Every job application (solicitação, ficha de inscrição) I make is always followed by a rejection. I’m constantly told that I just don’t cut it (não estar à altura, não corresponder). After countless setbacks (obstáculos, fracassos), I’ve lost all confidence in myself.

I’m starting to feel like I’m just not good enough, and maybe I’d be better off (em melhores circunstâncias) just quitting and getting a more practical job.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s great that you have a passion for writing, and it’s something that you should definitely hold on to (manter, agarrar, preservar).

Unfortunately following your dreams isn’t always easy, but with some persistence, you will get there (chegar lá, conseguir).

Perhaps it would be worth (valer a pena) considering some internships (estágios) or studying a journalism course to get you through the door (ter um início/ um começo).

My support pack Want To Be A Writer? also has some great tips (dicas, sugestões) that may help.
