> SIMPLE PAST
I/you/we/they/he/she/it:
worked | liked | drank | lived | saw | took
> regular verbs > ed
kissed | watched | washed | stayed | started | cleaned
> irregular verbs
go > went | eat > ate | write > wrote | know > knew | think > thought | wear > wore
> verbs that end in > y (preceded by a consonant) y changes to i and ed is added.
tried | studied | cried | copied
No change when a y is preceded by a vowel.
played | enjoyed | stayed
> Sometimes a verb ends in a CVC (consonant / vowel / consonant)
For example: stop, plan, drop, permit. Before ed > We double the final consonant.
planned | dropped | permitted | stopped | occurred | omitted | referred
But we don’t double if the last part of the word is not stressed.

> Simple Past Usage:
- Used to show that you are talking about something that has already happened.
- Used for actions that started and finished at a specific time in the past.
- It’s often used for stories or lists of events.
Examples sentences:
- I lived in Italy when I was a kid.
- My father worked in a bank from 1976 to 1989.
- Yesterday it rained all morning.
- I bought a new shirt last week.
- We enjoyed the party last night. We danced a lot and talked to a lot of friends.
- The match ended at midnight.
- When I was a child, I wanted to be a footballer.
- I washed my car last week.
- My parents left home very early yesterday.
- It was hot in the office, so I opened the window.
- The accident happened last Friday.
- Yesterday I went to the theater.
- She watched TV last night.
> Simple Past Negative:

- I didn’t sleep well last night.
- My parents did not like the food.
- My uncle didn’t know the answer.
> Simple Past – Interrogative and Negative questions :

> Wh- questions and word order: Question word + did + subject + verb.
Where +did +you+ go?

- Where did you go last week?
- How did the accident happen?
